Whirlwind (Part Two)

4 Jun

So, it has been almost a week since we returned from vacation but there is always laziness that comes along with the unpacking, cleaning and clothes laundering and that has been why I neglected writing lately.

Anyway, the rest of our vacation was a lot of fun in Disney World!  We spent our first full day (Tues. 5/24) at Univeral Studios between riding the “family friendly” rides like Jaws, Shrek and ET or switching off to ride the thrill rides separately while Lil Guy slept in his stroller.  It was a lot of walking in the extreme heat to attempt to explore both Universal parks in just one day but I feel that we got to do most everything we wanted to there (with the exception of not making it to the Harry Potter addition as Hubby wanted to).

The next day, we woke up really early for vacation (6:00) and hurriedly got ready to take Lil Guy to a character breakfast at Chef Mickeys at the Disney Contemporary Resort.  This was definitely one  of the highlights of the whole trip!  Just the pure joy on Lil Guy’s face every time a different character would venture into our area of tables for pictures and autographs was priceless!  “GASP!  I see Mickey!  Do you see Mickey?!  Aahhh!” he would exclaim each time.  Ever since that 1 and 1/2 hour long breakfast, he keeps excitedly telling everyone how Mickey made his breakfast – “He makes me waffles and pancakes and they were Mickey ones (meaning Mickey shaped).”

So, between that Wednesday morning after breakfast and all day Thursday, we trekked over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom.  Lil Guy obviously loved Animal Kingdom since it’s like a big zoo with fun rides.  But our day at the Magic Kingdom did get a bit overwhelming at times since it is the most crowded of the parks.  We were there from about 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and the temperature was about 95 degrees and extremely humid.  We found out that Lil Guy doesn’t seem to mind anything ride-wise except if it is really dark.  He HATED the Haunted Mansion, the People Mover in Tomorrowland and Buzz Lightyear (surprisingly because he loves Toy Story) since they were almost completely dark during most of the ride.  But, he didn’t mind Pirates of the Caribbean too much or the teacups, which to my dismay, he was more than happy to twist the wheel very fast.  We even stayed out much past Lil Guy’s bedtime to watch the electric parade at 9:00.

Our last day in Florida on Friday was spent shopping at Downtown Disney.  We ate lunch at the Wolfgang Puck Express and then spent some money on a few novelty clothing items and a Goofy hat that Lil Guy fell in love with!  Then, that evening, we drove the few hours back to Hubby’s parents house to rest up before returning the remaining nine hours on Saturday.

I always wonder this – why does a drive home from somewhere always seem longer than getting there even though it is obviously the same distance?  It can only be because of the anticpation involved on the way to going somewhere fun is much sweeter than the begrudging knowledge of returning home to the same scenery and routines.  Either way, it is always worth it to get away and I can’t wait until we do again!  🙂
